The Kills | Last Day of Magic

We’re two parties…
Two parties ending.

Woke up with this song already on repeat in my head.

A photo I took of some New Zealand-shaped clouds made it into Strange Maps today. As they rightly point out, it’s even more appropriate because Aotearoa, the Maori word for New Zealand, translates to “Land of the Long White Cloud.”

"Holy Lord Christ, please wipe this abortion of an eatery off the face of the earth."

—From a Yelp review of the New Golden Palace, the place where I unfortunately ate dinner tonight.

Worst. Meal. Of. My. Life.

PRO TIP: Read Yelp reviews BEFORE you walk into a new restaurant.

You Call Yourself Pro Life? (via apsies: notthatkindagay)
In between coughing up my lungs and puking up blood yesterday, I was faxing my senators from my sick bed, urging them to pass the Senate health care reform bill, in the hopes that someday the millions of uninsured people (like myself) have somewhere to go when they fall ill. So ironic it’s almost funny?

The Rings of the Earth

Q: What would the Earth look like if it had a ring system like Saturn? (via inky)

A: Fantastic. We should go for it.

Frightened Rabbit | “Nothing Like You”

I’m bruised, but she is dressing my wounds
And night-nursing a broken man
She was not the cure for cancer,
And all my questions still ask for answers,
But there is nothing like someone new,
And this girl, she was nothing like you.

This is a new track (thanks, BBC!) from Frightened Rabbit’s forthcoming release, Swim Until You Can’t See Land. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!

Amazon.com | Laptop Steering Wheel Desk
Need a laugh? Do yourself a favor and read the amazing product reviews and check out the customer images for the Laptop Steering Wheel Desk. I didn’t think anything on Amazon would ever top the Three Wolf Moon shirt, but oh boy, I was wrong.

"November 24th marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s Origin of Species. On November 19th, a guy named Ray Comfort, who does not accept evolution, will celebrate the fact that when copyrights expire and works enter the public domain you’re free to do with them what you will. Thus Comfort will be distributing his own edition of Darwin’s masterwork, with a new introduction. This is roughly the equivalent of me fingerpainting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel so as to improve the work."

Steve Mirsky | Darwin in Battle of Wits against Unarmed Man | Scientific American

Apparently, The University of Pennsylvania is on the list of schools that Comfort is targeting. Oh, how badly I want a copy of this book!

Wherein I sick-dial* my own blog, just so ya’ll can hear my sultry, raspy laringitis-voice. See how much I love you guys?

*4 out of 5 experts agree: Sick-dialing is at least one notch classier than drunk-dialing.

Pale Fire by Stephen Doyle | The Nabokov Specimen Box Project
The assignment: redesign Vladimir Nabokov’s book covers, all twenty-one of them. The solution: twenty-one specimen boxes, the kind used by butterfly collectors like Nabokov, each created by a different designer. (link via see.saw)
